Anxiety Society

Together We are Stronger

We are a support group for people with anxiety, worry, low mood, depression or any other mental health conditions.

We are not mental health professionals, but people who have their own experiences of battling mental health conditions.

We aim to bridge the gap between mental health services and isolation. We also work closely with other local mental health services and charities,

Our Story

Five years ago I was in a very dark place, I’ve been through a life time of trauma. In recent years, I lost my Dad, Father in law and Mother in law all with in 8 months and at the same time had cancer.  I’d had one health condition after another and I felt useless. I struggled to look after myself and my own children due to my health. So I ended up having a breakdown. I was discharged from the mental health services after an assessment and felt so alone.

This group gave me back a purpose, I was no longer useless. I have loved every  moment of running the group all the people we have met. I have an amazing team who go above and beyond to support our members.

I decided to educate myself on what happens to the body and mind with depression and anxiety, looked into neuroscience, meditation and positive psychology. I never wanted to go back to that dark place in fear I wouldn’t get out again.

I have always been good at helping others so I decided that I would create a peer support group something I could do from my bed if I had to. I knew there must be others who were feeling as I did and the support services are over stretched and it is increasingly hard to get the support.

Anxiety Society was born, very quickly we realised we needed physical meets. We became a small constituted charity, we are now applying to be a registered charity.
